Our story
Postpartum care has apps.
It doesn't have answers.
Milkdrop started not with a whiteboard or a business plan, but with a sleepless night, a crying baby, and the realisation that postpartum care is one of the most underserved areas in health technology. The apps existed. The features existed. But none of it was built around the people who actually needed it.
Where it began
The app that should have existed, but didn't
When one of our co-founders and his wife became first-time parents, they quickly discovered that the support around them was fragmented. One app for tracking feeds. Another for sleep. A forum for questions. A PDF from the midwife. A well-meaning but overwhelming WhatsApp thread from family.
The apps they tried were not bad. They had features. Timers, charts, reminders. But they were built as tools, not as support. They collected information without ever doing anything useful with it. A new parent staring at a feed log at 3am does not need more data. They need someone to tell them whether what they are seeing is okay.
The 3am Google searches started. The forum posts. The calls to the midwife not because something was clearly wrong, but because there was no way to know. That uncertainty, that constant low hum of not quite knowing, turned out to be something almost every new parent recognised.
That gap is why Milkdrop exists.
The problem we're solving
Tracking is not the same as understanding
We are living in a period of extraordinary technological progress. AI is reshaping medicine, finance, education. Yet postpartum care has barely been touched. The apps that exist are, at their core, digital logbooks. They were built to capture data, not to understand it. Parents are left with charts that grow longer by the day and still no clearer picture of what any of it means.
When guidance is provided, it tends to be broad and generic. The kind of advice you could find on any parenting website. Nothing that knows your baby's patterns, your recovery, or your specific situation. For a sector that touches every single family, the gap between what technology can do and what parents actually have access to is striking.
The knock-on effects are real. Parents turn to late-night forum searches, risk misinformation, or end up at A&E for reassurance that could have been given with the right support in place. NHS services carry the weight of anxiety that smarter technology could help address.
We think there is a better way.
How we're different
Intelligent care, not just a tracker
Data that actually means something
Most apps give you a log. Milkdrop gives you understanding. We use AI to analyse your baby's patterns and tell you what they mean, not just what they are.
Your AI midwife, always on
Questions don't wait for office hours. Milkdrop is available at 3am, on a Sunday, in the middle of a feed. Calm, informed support whenever you need it.
Grounded in NHS and WHO guidelines
Every insight Milkdrop surfaces is aligned with NHS and WHO frameworks. Not crowdsourced opinions or generic advice. Clinically backed guidance, personalised to your family.
Built for your whole village
Parenting is not a one-person job. Milkdrop brings partners, co-carers, and family into the same picture so everyone stays informed and no one is left guessing.
The bigger picture
Good for families. Good for the NHS.
When parents have access to clear, personalised, evidence-based support, they make more confident decisions. They worry less. They reach for their phone instead of the A&E waiting room. That is not just better for families; it takes real pressure off NHS services that are already stretched.
Our long-term vision is to bridge the gap between clinical postpartum care and the everyday reality of new parenthood. An intelligent, adaptive platform that learns over time, anticipates needs, and brings professional-level insight directly into the hands of families who need it.
We want data-driven, compassionate postpartum support to be something every parent can access, not just the ones who know where to look.
The team
Technologists who happen to be parents
The Milkdrop team is built on a full-stack engineering foundation, but what drives us is the problem, not the technology. We know from experience that the postpartum period can feel isolating and overwhelming, even when you are surrounded by people who care.
We are in a position to do something about it. The combination of lived parenting experience, deep technical skills, and publicly available health guidance from the NHS and WHO means we can build something that genuinely raises the bar. Not another feed-logging app with a chatbot bolted on. Something that meets families where they are and grows with them.
We have validated this with real parents. The demand is real. The need is real. And we are building it properly.
